Observation #1: OR ROCKS!

I found a way to get out of working on Friday...by asking! With that said, I had the priviledge to see a bilateral breast reduction.

I showed up early in the morning, changed into scrubs and waited. Unfortunately, I couldn't get in on the carpal tunnel release, but in reality, it's only a 30 minute microscopic procedure, so I wasn't too bothered. I had some time to write a solid journal entry and wait for the Doctor to finish. When he arrived, we went to grab some lunch. We were stopped from eating lunch to do rounds on his pre- and post-op cases, so it was great to watch this all happen. It was funny, the post-op lady said "Are you going to be a doctor?" I smiled: "Someday I will be a doctor." Well, in 2014, if you consider that soon with a two year informal post-bacc program I have designed and four years of med school. Either way, it is going to happen.

I didn't have the opportunity to scrub-in, since it was my first observation, I didn't really care. I may be able to scrub in the next surgery I can get to. Everyone in the OR was excellent and very helpful in explaining the procedures, equipment, raving about their medical schools, the whole gamet. It was quite an experience. OR ROCKS!

I do not think I'll get back into the OR until after the new year, but this will give me time to focus on preparing for school, moving and sending off my best friend and love to the Northwest.
